It's Back! Tell-All Tuesday: St. Ive's Moisturizing Body Wash

13.5 oz. - $2.99 at Walgreens
  • For radiant, replenished skin
  • Skin feels soft, smooth, revitalized
  • Dermatologist tested
  • Delivers maximum moisture
  • Made with natural ingredients
  • Formulated without parabens and phthalates
  • Not tested on animals and does not contain animal ingredients

How the heck are you supposed to choose a body wash?  I mean really.  There are bars of soap, there are liquid soaps, there are scrubs and there are foams.  For me, it's usually whatever is on sale or cheap and also doesn't look sketchy.  I once had quite the run-in with White Rain's $0.99 body wash...as in hives all over my legs.  Bleh.  So how did I stumble upon this product, you may ask?  On sale for $1.99.  Although even it's regular price is still considered to be cheap in my book, this product really delivers.  I love St. Ive's products to begin with - I use their facial moisturizer and have used their body lotions for years and absolutely cannot complain.  This product is a great addition to that list.
The body wash comes out thick and creamy, and lathers almost effortlessly when used with a pouf.  You really don't need to use more than a nickel-sized amount to get a great, luxuriously thick lather, unlike a lot of body washes out there.  I am a bit of a lather freak...I love bubbles, what can I say?  So I use a bit more than required.  The smell is hard to describe...it kind of reminds me of a Biolage shampoo mixed with some relaxing aromatherapy scents from Bath and Body Works.  In case you got lost somewhere along that scent trail, it smells deliciously feminine and is quite a pleasant aroma to help you wake up and prepare for taking on the day.

Typically, I need to put on body lotion the minute I get out of the shower or else my skin feels tight and dried out, but with St. Ive's Moisturizing Body Wash, I can do a whole face of makeup before starting to feel a bit itchy.  The rich lather seems to engulf your skin in a sea of moisture and actually help lock the nutrients and moisture deep into your skin for a long lasting hydrated feeling.

If you are looking for a new body wash, give this guy a try.  It is dermatologist tested and it did not irritate my relatively sensitive skin.  You won't be disappointed!

What is your favorite body wash?

Grab Your Hubbies and Let's Help Out! (Social Intesity Syndrome Research)

> Dear Rachel,
>
> I am working with Dr. Phil Zimbardo (Stanford University, CA) and Sarah
> Brunskill to standardize a measure that evaluates a recently developed
> conceptual model called The Social Intensity Syndrome, or SIS. The research

> systems, relationships and mental health.
>
> We hope to determine that social networks are vital to the re-adaptation
> into civilian life, and helps prevent severe mental health problems (i.e.,
> anxiety, depression, and PTSD). We truly believe that social groups like air
> force wife support blogs and websites are the best support systems a Vet can
> have, particularly if they have been deployed. This is why I have come to
> you and your organization for help.
>
> We need more participants to take the survey to ensure that all wars, age
> groups, and departments within the military are accurately represented.
> Could you help me get this survey out to both enlisted and/or Veterans?
Link to survey: https://sites.google.com/site/sisstudy/
For questions, please e-mail Sarah Brunskill at sbrunskill@gmail.com.

Would you be willing to recruit your husband, male friends, and any other male veterans you know to help participate in this survey?  If your hubby simply doesn't have time, please feel free to copy and paste this post to share on your own blog and share the link to it on your Facebook and/or Twitter pages!  Thanks for your help!

The Facts, Humbled, Honored, and Happy

I want to start with saying WOW.  When I first started The Air Force Wife way back in February (seems like it has been years!)  I would have never even imagined that I would be getting the great interaction from other military spouses as I am receiving right now.  It isn't even possible for me to describe how incredible I feel waking up to anywhere from 1 to 10 e-mails from either new military spouses who have stumbled upon my blog and have their own questions or from organizations looking for a bit of assistance in promoting their cause.  I am humbled, I am grateful beyond words, and I am so stinkin' excited that I am accomplishing my goal of connecting and informing other military spouses out there.  It's a strange thing, obtaining goals.  There is a huge sense of accomplishment, pride, and gratitude.  But there is also a tiny bit a sorrow - knowing that you now have to leave your old goal behind and push towards a new one.  That little minute grain of sorrow is overtaken by the joy that you all have given me through sticking by my side throughout this journey and knowing that you will be right there with me as I move towards tackling other goals.

I am so excited to see where The Air Force Wife will be a few months down the road.  You are all such a blessing to me and I am overwhelmed with thankfulness.

I also wanted to add in here (this is me coming back later after I remembered) please be patient with me returning e-mails.  As I stated, I can receive 10+ in a day.  In addition to posting here, I also have a couple of events going on (like the pen pal exchange and the directory) that do take up some time.  I am also getting down to the wire with my schooling and have been trying to work on getting as much completed per day as I possibly can (so boring!).  In addition to the lovely interwebs world, as much as I hate to think about it, I do actually have real-life responsibilities as well.  Keeping the house clean, upcoming house guests, tending to my furbabies, etc. can also be pretty time consuming.  I will typically return all e-mails in the morning as soon as I am on my laptop, but if you don't hear back from me for a couple of days, please don't worry - I promise I will get back to you as soon as I can!  Thank you for your patients and understanding, guys!

Now, on a not-so-serious note, here are my next 2 facts.

Fact #26:  I still sleep with a night light.  I probably always will.  I am always overtaken with a mini-panic attack right about at bedtime.  I'm somehow convinced that out of all of the massive houses in our housing development - those with a shiny Lexus or BMW sitting out in the driveway, those with a million dollar pool in the backyard, or those with a perfectly groomed yard (whose owner you can obviously tell is loaded simply by their lawn ornaments) - I think that they would choose our little single family home.  With our Suburus tucked away in the garage.  With our $12 rusting plastic lawn chairs lounging out on the lanai.  With our ghetto formal dining room that has nothing but Deizel's kennel in it.  In all reality, any robber that would break into our house would probably be extremely upset that he had wasted his time stopping here.  His best bet would be trying to run off with our 72" TV...best of luck with that, pal.

Fact #27:  I am a huge stickler on customer service at restaurants.  I worked as a hostess starting when I was 14 years old.  I was taught that not only is the customer always right, but you are always happy to declare them right and treat them as your own personal guest.  After working there for 2 years, I took a break and switched over the the tourism industry.  Customer service was still a very big part of that job.  Then, I switched back to being a cashier/hostess/server at a wings joint.  I worked hard for my money - as in being the friendliest I could be, keeping the guest comfortable, and providing the quickest and best service I could.  So when I'm sitting there waiting on you to come take my flipping drink order for over 5 minutes, your tip just went down.  When I see you taking care of all of your other tables and somehow forgetting about mine, your tip just went down again.  When I see tables that were seated after mine getting their food before we have received ours (in some cases, depending on the order, I know this can happen), guess what?  Your tip just went down again.  When you are practically trying to push me out the door, you may as well forget about a tip.  It is rare for me to not tip, simply because I know that your $2.50/hr paycheck typically only pays for the taxes on your tips, but if I don't leave you any sort of a tip, you should probably not be in the restaurant bizz.

In a way, working in a restaurant for so many years has almost ruined any pleasure I get from eating out.  I'm constantly looking around at what the workers are doing, subconsciously timing how long it takes them to get our drinks and take our order, looking around on the floor and walls to see if they are clean.  My mind is forever corrupt! ;)

What are some big customer service issues for you?

#24 and #25

Fact #24:  I can't straighten my arms all of the way.  For some reason I ended up with defective elbows that don't cooperate when I try to fully extend them.  My first cheerleading coach would always yell at me to "Straighten your arms!!!" until one day she finally came over and tried to completely extend my arm.  And behold, the discovery of my defective elbows!

Fact #25:  I am really quite a crafty-type person.  I sew, quilt, knit, scrapbook, stamp, draw, and paint (all in addition to photography and the new-age high techy arts, that is)!  I used to want to be an artist...until I remembered what a perfectionist I am when it comes to my work, reminding me that the whole thing could turn into a pretty time-consuming, not so much profit turning, commitment.  Still enjoy art of all forms as a hobby though!

#21, #22, and #23

Fact #21:  I love sushi.  Not a fan of sushimi, but I could eat sushi seriously every day.  Yum!

Fact #22:  I was fat and mean in elementary school (the upper couple of years, anyway).  I used to walk to school with my neighbor/best friend Rachel (I believe I've mentioned her in a previous post).  One day her cousin (who I found extremely attractive) had spent the night at her house and needed to walk to school with us.  In addition to him joining us, I also had my friend K who would be accompanying us.  I had known K ever since preschool...she was quite the naughty influence on me.  Do you all remember when it was the "cool" thing to chase around boys at recess to kick them in their family jewels?  Or even in the shins?  Heck, we would take whatever we could get!  Well, this particular day, my meanness took over (after some monkey see-monkey do inspiration from K that is).  K and I were both in orchestra that year.  She had a violin, I had a viola, and naturally we were walking to school carrying our stringed instruments in their cases.  Not a big deal.  Up until K thought it would be a good idea to start beating up on Rachel's cousin, J.  It was still fun and games when the pushing led to kicking in the shins, which led to kicking in the nuts (did I really just type "nuts"?!?!?!?), which led to ramming our instrument cases straight into J's gut.  I decided it would be wise to get my two cents in...of course.  As soon as I swung my viola case back and it began to come forward, I regretted it.  I regretted it so much I felt sick.  Things switched to slow motion as one of the three metal buckles securing the case closed dug into J's lip.  Awesome.  And then came the blood.  J took it like a man: no tears were shed that day.  My stomach sunk and I shamefully offered him one of the mini-tissues my mom always stuffed into my backpack to try to clean up his face a bit.  The teasing I got at school for the next weeks was relentless.  But of course my memories of the event are all from the elementary kid mind set, so it probably wasn't actually that bad.  The comment I will always remember is J's best friend coming up to me and saying, "Tough love, huh Rachel??"  Looking back, it's kinda funny.  Although I still feel terrible.  And refuse to play and/or carry cased stringed instruments.

Fact #23:  My sister is my best friend.  She always has been and always will be.  She is a mother figure when I need one, a friend to give advice when I need one, a shoulder to cry on when I need one, and the best sister in the world who is always there for me.

Our sister tattoos :)

First Ever Couponing Trip!

It's no secret that I've been wanting to get into couponing for quite some time.  Well friends, today was the day I decided to put the pedal to the metal and finally dive in the water.  I took my first trip as a couponer to Walgreens.  Funny thing is, I only entered the store with two measly coupons in hand.  The one thing I did have, though, was my list.  I would have been lost without it.  Here is what I walked away with:

That's 1-24 pk. of Zephyrhills Natural Spring water, 2 Crest 3D tooth pastes, 2 Listerine, 3 Nice! Mac & Cheese, 2 EOS lip balm, 2 Purex laundry detergent, and 2 dish soaps.  The grand total before savings would have been $55.19, but thanks to some careful planning and tactful transaction skills (not to mention a patient and friendly check-out clerk at the beauty counter!), I got that grand total down to $23.63.  For those of you  who are, much like myself, a bit rusty with crunching numbers, that's a savings total of $31.56.  Wah hoo!!  I feel so accomplished!  Here is everything broken down for those who are curious:

2/$6 EOS, $4 RR - $6.00
Listerine BOGO 50%, $4 RR, used $4 RR - $4.0
Purex BOGO free, used $4 RR - $2.41
2 Dish soap @ 1.99 each + $.80 coupon - $2.56
Crest 3D 2/$7.00, $4 RR - $7.49
1-24 pk Zephyrhills bottled water and 1 Nice! mac & cheese @ 0.89 (used as filler), $1 RR, used $4 RR - $0.38
2 Nice! mac & cheese @ 0.89 each, used $1.00 RR - $0.78

This also counts for my fact of the day...I need to go eat some mac & cheese and celebrate!  :)  Happy weekend, all!
Would anyone be interested in learning how to coupon with me?

Facts #18 and #19

Fact #18:  I will probably turn into a crazy cat lady when I'm older.  Or crazy dog lady.  Or both.  It's not just me saying either, that's kind of the plan.  Early on in Hubby and I's relationship we both agreed that once he retires from the Air Force, we are going to buy a good chunk of land and open up an elderly dog rescue.  The addition of cats into the mix wasn't until later...and I'm pretty certain Hubs still isn't aware of it. ;)

Fact #19:  I am getting an education for free through MyCAA - a program for military spouses.  They allot you up to $4,000 towards your education.  The course I am taking was around $2,700 so I didn't have to pay for anything out of pocket.  I'm currently studying to become a medical transcription editor.  Sounds complex, but it's really quite simple (depending on the type of doctor you are transcribing for).  Essentially, whenever you go into the doctor's office for a visit, that doctor is required to record everything that took place so that it can be permanently stored in your medical records for future reference by any and all doctors providing you with care.  Doctors typically record themselves talking using a dictaphone and then the sound file is sent off to a medical transcriptionist to type up in a certain format (depending on the doctor's office's format).  The transcriptionist listens to the file, types it up, and proofs it.  The typed up medical record is then sent off to a medical transcription editor to be proofed.  It is pretty common for medical transcriptionists to also be medical transcription editors - the pay is better and you get more work.  I chose to pursue this career due to its flexibility: I am able to work from home and typically will not have set hours.  The only downfall is that the pay is based upon your production.

If you have any more questions about MyCAA or great, movable jobs opportunities for spouses, feel free to shoot me an e-mail!

Fact #17

Fact #17: Hi, my name is Rachel and I have a problem with hoodies. More like an addiction. Let's take a peek inside my closet, shall we?
Yep-there are 22 hoodies packed in there. Count 'em! :)

#12 - #16

Fact #12:  I am addicted to Bravo and VH1.

Fact #13:  I was a cheerleader 9th through 11th grade.  I was cheer captain in 11th grade.  Didn't cheer senior year as I was working two jobs and didn't have time (really regret it!).  I was also class president all throughout high school.  Woo hoo, right?  ;-P

Fact #14:  I absolutely hate changing my hair style.  It gives me a mini-anxiety attack every time I even get it cut, let alone want to change up the color.  Needless to say, I cut my own hair.  I've had it destroyed a few times too many.

Fact #15:  I suck at all video games.  I was raised without a gaming system...how did I survive, right?  No Nintendo, no GameBoy, no Wii, no Xbox, no Playstation...nothing.  I went outside and played with my friends.  During the summer, my best friend Rachel (same names are so cute, aren't they??) and I would spend literally every night at each other's houses.  We would play outside all day, stay up late, and then do it all over again the next day.  My kids will be no different.  You don't need the TV, gaming systems, or computers to have fun.  Go outside and be a kid!  Go climb a tree and roll around in a muddy puddle!

Fact #16:  I love the smell of cleaning supplies.  Bleach, Clorox, Windex, Publix lemon floor cleaner, EndDust...and yes, I do like to keep my house sparkly clean, although we are still working on unpacking and putting away everything.

Homeowners Finally!

Please forgive me for the brevity of this post, but we don't (and will not) have Internet until Wesnesday...how ever will I survive? So I am writing this with the assistance from the Blogger app, which I am not a big fan of. Anyways, we closed on Thursday, moved on that night have been unpacking since 8 yesterday, and picked up GRIZZLY (!!!!!!!!) yesterday evening. I missed the little stinker so much!
I will try to sneak in a post during my puppy-sitting visits (my laptop and school stuff is still all set up over there), but if I am not able to update you all until Wednesday, I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

#10 and #11

Holy macaroni and cheese was yesterday crazy!  As you all know, we have been staying at A and M's house for the past month or so until our house was ready and we could close.  Well, Hubby has been driving my Legacy around ever since his junky, stupid, piece of crap, idiotic, rice burner car stopped running a couple of weeks back.  No big deal.  Until I realized that the only house key we had in our possession was on my key ring.  To the Legacy.  The Legacy that Hubby drove 45 minutes to the base for work that morning.  And so my fun day began.  Not only were A & M driving back with A's kiddos from West Virginia (meaning I needed to tidy up the house and make sure that everything was just as nice as it was when they left), but they had just recently set up one of those pools from Walmart (the big ones) so I needed to check the filter, put more chlorine in, etc.  Oh, did I mention I was in a big hurry because it was 9 AM and I had volunteered to puppy sit one of Hubby's friend's dogs who hadn't been let out since 8:30 the night before?  As I frantically finished cleaning the house and changing out the pool filter, I made one last quick trip around the house, ensuring that all previously lit candles had been blown out.  I was golden.  So I thought.  I locked both the front and back doors and sprinted as I hit the button to close the garage door.  I awkwardly maneuvered my legs as high as I could (more like as high as my tight American Eagle jeans would allow me to) to avoid triggering the sensor, which would halt the door from closing.  Sweet victory!  And then it hit me.  My phone was still inside the house.  The locked house.  The locked house that's nearest key was 45 minutes away.  Sweet deal.  And so began my day.  Thunderstorms with high winds and power outage capabilities, having to "restation" ourselves to Hubby's friend's house until we are able to move into ours, and Diezel pooping and peeing literally all over these people's house all day long (guess who got to clean it up...this chick!) were a few of the other fantastical highlights of my day.  Woo hoo!  All of that to say that I didn't have internet access last night.  And when I did, wracking my brain for two more fun facts didn't sound particularly fun.  Just sayin'.  So here I am today, ready to go with my next two facts!

Fact #10:  I've always had low self esteem.  It takes me hours to make "simple" decisions.  I am notorious for second guessing myself.  I'm getting better with this though every day.

Fact #11:  I never went to parties growing up.  I honestly never really did anything rebellious or naughty (shocking, I know).  I once almost got expelled though for telling a kid who called me a "kiss ass" because I was standing up for my favorite teacher (I was really close to this teacher) to "shut the firetruck* up" *obviously insert a different four letter "f" word here , getting up and leaving the classroom, crying in the bathroom for a few minutes, and then getting even more upset and deciding that up and driving home would be a good idea.  Not so much.  To make things even better, my daddy-o was the president of the school board at that time and was notified of my acting out almost immediately.  I knew what I did was wrong.  But if we are being completely honest here, I don't regret what I did.  Other than kinda causing a scene and storming out.  The speaking up part I'd do over again in a heart beat.

Hubs and I Throughout the Years

If you haven't already seen on either my Facebook page, Twitter, or Instagram, today is Hubby and I's first marriage anniversary.  I thought what could possibly be more fitting than telling you all how it began?  Perhaps posting pictures of us throughout the years which, yes, would be a little better than having to read the story, but I'll meet you in the middle: How about a little bit of both?  Boring story, picture of Hubs and I, more rambling, picture of Hubster and I, and so on and so forth?  April fools, my mild OCD won't allow me to break up the text so much (I just now realized how many pictures I want to post), so instead I'll post the story first and then you can merrily scroll your way through the photos afterwards.  Mkay, pumpkin?  Sound like a fair trade?  Good, I knew you'd come around.  ;)

Ehemmmm *best story teller voice* It was a dark and stormy night in a spooky, abandoned, crusty old house...nah, I'm just playing.  It was the summer of 2008 - I had a boyfriend who had just moved to Hawaii (his dad is in the Air Force) and I was just starting my new job at Reptile Gardens, a tourist attraction with tons of spooky reptiles, birds, gators, lizards, (you get the picture).  I met Hubs for the first time when I was working in the "dome".  The dome was basically like a greenhouse where different kinds of lizards ran free, tons of exotic orchids bloomed and thrived, and tropical birds were placed on perches to be displayed each morning.  Turns out, ol' Hubby was a bird guy.  I was standing in the dome supervising the wildlife (crazy tourists included) when Hubby came in to check on the birds.  The only reason I remembered this was because he kept his retarded looking white Electric sunglasses on...inside...pretty sure it was also a cloudy day out, which made it that much odder.  But, I was back to trying to discretely text my boyfriend from behind a bush in no time, completely unconcerned with Hubby and his odd sunglasses and short khaki shorts.

Our next run in was in the break room.  It was extremely crowded that day and there was only one chair empty...next to Hubby and his odd bird trainer friends - yippee skipee!  I asked Hubby if I could sit next to him and quietly crunched on my pretzels.  I remember leaving the break room that day before my break was completely over - it was far too awkward.

Summer quickly came to an end.  I was back to school and hadn't thought about Hubs since the last time I saw him.  We had a substitute teacher in speech class for close to 2 months, Mrs. Howie, who (long story short) ended up becoming more of a second mother to me than a sub.  My bestie E and I would go over to her house to hang out, we would go shopping with her, and well - you get the picture.  One day Mrs. Howie brought up me having worked at Reptile Gardens the previous summer and stated that a student from another of her classes at different high school had worked there as well.  She went on and on talking about how cute he was and about how he remembered me (and also kept telling her how cute he thought I was, but he knew I was off limits because I had a boyfriend at the time).  Mrs. Howie gave me his number and gave him mine as well, but we only texted literally once.  I tried to get him to ask me to his school's prom, but he wasn't catching my drift (unfortunately).  After that, I kinda lost interest.  After all, I was only a junior and had the attention span of a goldfish.

After having broken up with my previous boyfriend, I finally gave Hubster another try.  I texted him.  We hung out.  I thought he was the weirdest person I had ever met and actually told E, she will testify on this to this very day, that I would never ever ever date him!  We continued to hang out.  Had our first kiss on July 4, 2009 (fireworks and all, folks!), and were officially an item as of October 25, 2009.  Hubby and I were sitting in the parking lot of the ice hockey rink where he played, and Hubs asked me if I would be his official girlfriend as I was getting in my car.  I hesitantly said yes.  And now here we are, after many ups and downs and everything in between, almost 3 years later!  Do I need to make you a cup of coffee to attempt to rejuvenate you after that big long speal?  *Checks for your pulse*  Oh great, you're still kickin'!

Now, death by pictures!  P.S.: These are in chronological order so you can see us throughout the years :)

Fact #9:  As stated in my story, I actually stated aloud to my best friend that I would never even consider dating Hubby.  Crazy how things work out, isn't it? :)

Facts #7 and #8

Fact #7:  I still don't know what I want to be "when I grow up".  I haven't really given a whole lot of thought to it, but I can tell you that I have wanted to be everything from a facial surgeon to a kindergarten teacher and literally everything in between.  There are just so many things that I want to do - I don't know how to settle with just one of them.

Fact #8:  I'm a better listener than I am a talker.  More than once I have been mistaken for being "stuck up" because I really don't talk a whole lot when meeting new people.  It isn't that I don't care about what you have to say - it's actually quite the opposite.  I feel like I can offer people a heck of a lot more by just opening my ears and genuinely listening to what they are saying, rather than opening my big mouth and trying to butt in with my opinions.  I also tend to get nervous when I am speaking to people that I don't already know or am not really comfortable with - I stutter, talk in riddles, and often times get downright embarrassed at how awkward I am when meeting new people!

2012 Military Spouse Penpal Exchange

I remember how ecstatic I was to receive mail when I was younger.  Whether it was an advertisement, a postcard appointment reminder for the dentist, or a birthday card, I was always eager to see what the mail man would drop off in our box each day.  I remember having penpals when I was younger - friends I had met at church or horse camp, cousins whom I'd only met a handful of times due to them residing in distant lands, or penpals that I had acquired through school somehow.  My excitement for mail began to fade when 99.9% of what I would receive turned into college advertisements -I swear I must have gotten a postcard from every college in the country, some numerous times over.  My love for the mail man hit an all time record high when Hubby was at basic.  Those letters could turn my day from a 0 on the happiness scale to an infinity and beyond (no exaggerating, I promise).  But, alas, now that I'm an adult (boy it feels funny saying that word in relation to myself...adult...hehe), I really do not enjoy checking the mail box.  Sure, it is a bright spot in my day when I have nothing better to do but wait on the mail man's arrival (or if I am expecting a package, card, product for review, or coupon), but typically the articles of mail I am greeted with make me wish I would have stayed inside and hidden under the kitchen table.  Bills.  Insurance information.  Bank statements.  Are you asleep yet?  I'm feeling a tad drowsy just thinking about it.

Today's technology seems to have brushed snail mail under the rug.  Although I am convinced that snail mail will never completely disappear (unless we somehow come up with a way to teleport packages), it deeply saddens me to think that my future children may not ever get the chance to partake in having penpals or the joy or receiving a handwritten, heartfelt letter from someone.  There is something almost magical about receiving a handwritten letter:  Not only is it more personable than a casual text or e-mail, but it is so much more meaningful to know that the sender took the time to hand write every letter of every word of that special note.  They carefully articulated each sentence and crafted the letter in their very own, one of a kind handwriting.

So here's what I'm going to do about it (and also in celebration of my 200th post!  Partayyyy!!):
*NOTE: YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A MILITARY SPOUSE TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS EXCHANGE.  IF YOU ARE A SIGNIFICANT OTHER OR FAMILY MEMBER, YOU ARE INCLUDED IN THIS!  IF YOU HAVE ANY OTHER RELATION TO THE MILITARY, PLEASE USE YOUR DISCRETION IN DECIDING WHETHER OR NOT IT WOULD BE FIT FOR YOU TO PARTICIPATE.  THANK YOU!

Here are the rules:

1.  Click HERE to sign up by July 30, 2012.  The only information you will need to provide is your name and an e-mail address.

List 5 Friday: Gadgets (via The Palmetto Queen)

The Palmetto queen

Today I'm participating in the beautiful Cari's link up, List 5 Friday!  This week's topic is the top 5 gadgets I can't live without.  This is going to be tricky...not only because I'm such a techie nerd, but also because there are so many gadgets that I use regularly...it makes it hard to narrow things down.  I'll give 'er my best shot though!

1.  My laptop.  Couldn't live without him.  He's been so wonderful all of these years (hopefully I didn't just jinx it and set myself up for a huge computer breakdown...ruh roh!)  But my Toshiba Satellite a505-s6017 really is a wonderful laptop.  Super fast, tons of storage room, webcam, great speakers, huge display screen, comfy keyboard...got him for a great price before I headed off to college too!

2.  White iPhone.  Why white, you may ask?  Well, because it's cute - that's why.  I told Hubby (after he had spent weeks trying to convince me to get an iPhone) that the only way I would ever get one is if they had it in white.  Sure enough they did!  I love how organized my iPhone keeps me.  It has a great camera, astoundingly lengthy battery life, tons of apps, and lots of cute options for covers.  I also love how you can make different folders to organize all of your apps to prevent clutter on your home screen.  As much as I would love to downgrade my phone to one with just simple calling and texting, I think I would have a meltdown without my iPhone!

3.  Nikon D3100 + lens kit.  I can't imagine a world where photography didn't exist.  I think I would wither away and die...no, but seriously.  Photography is the one of the only things that I feel truly brings me to life - I feel so indescribably alive, joyful, and fulfilled whenever I am out photographing anything.  This camera is great for people who have little to no previous DSLR experience.  If you feel you need a bit more help in understanding how to operate this picture-taking beast, I'd highly recommend looking into the "For Dummies" line of books...they are great!

4.  PetSafe Yard & Park Trainer.  Call me mean.  Call me inhumane.  Call me heartless.  You've never had a Doberman, and one going through puberty and the testing all limits as much as possible phase.  Put simply, Diezel needed to have his boundaries set and vocal positive and negative reinforcement weren't doing the trick.  Long story short, now we have this collar and it works amazing.  Other large "aggressive" breed dog owners there completely understand where I am coming from and the absolute importance of instilling good habits in your dog as a puppy.  Dobermans will overtake you and your entire house.  We have had zero problems with this collar and after using it for just a day, Diezel's behavior change was night and day.

5.  Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000.  Absolutely wonderful - I'm sure my wrist and hand functionality would be little to none without this keyboard!  See my complete review on this keyboard here!

And now for my fact of the day:

Fact #6:  I would love to meet Beyonce and Lady Gaga!  I have always loved Beyonce - her voice is beyond incredible!  I love Lady Gaga's music, but I love her as a person even more.  Weirdness aside, she stands for great things and encourages people to be themselves.

Awesome Channelside Fireworks & #5

Is this not the best fireworks finale you have ever seen?  If your answer is No, as a matter of fact it is most certainly not, welllll then please take into account the fact that they were held over the gulf waters.  Now are you totally completely convinced that it was the most awesome 4th of July finale you have ever witnessed (even if it was only through my iPhone video).  I hope you all had a wonderful and relaxing 4th of July spent surrounded by the ones you love!  I wish my family could have been down here to share the festivities of the day with me, but it will make them coming for Christmas that much more special.

Fact #5:  I was raised extremely conservatively.  I wasn't allowed to watch a lot of shows on TV because of disrespectful characters/profanity/etc., but I was always allowed to express myself (choose my hair cut, clothes, nail polish colors, etc.).  I went to public school up until 7th grade, when I switched to a private Christian school.  Once senior year rolled around, the graduating class of 2010 left our final "hurrah" by walking down the graduation aisle to the "Celebrate good times, com'on!" song...all twelve of us [we were quite the rule breakers, but we could be: we had teacher's kids in our class ;)].  Please don't mistake my being conservative and sheltered for being naive and oblivious - although a lot of conservative people would seem to prove that they are one in the same, I am not closed minded and am really quite down to Earth.  Being conservative kinda goes hand in hand with my religious disposition, so I figure I may as well throw this in: I believe in a Higher Power.  I do not believe in "religion", I believe in a relationship with Jesus my Lord and Savior.  I tend to stay away from churches, "Christian" gatherings, etc.  Not a fan of people who try to force their religion and beliefs down people's throat or all of the judgement that, unfortunately, often times comes as a package deal with "Christians" and the "church".  I could go on about this topic forever, but for the sake of your sanity, I will end with this: I'm not a Christian because of what I say and do, I'm a Christian because of my heart which as a result does effect my words and actions.  Make sense?  I hope?? ;-P

There Ain't No Doubt I Love This Land

Thank you to all of those who have given so much for the freedom of our beautiful country.  God bless the USA!
I would also like to encourage you to please take into consideration those who may be battling with PTSD before setting off any fireworks on your own.

Fact #4:  Ever since I was younger, I've always been extremely patriotic.  It could have something to do with my daddy being a Marine, or maybe both of my grandpa's having served in the Navy has contributed, but either way, I love this country.  I am and always will be proud to be an American - we are such a blessed nation!

Random Facts July

I realize I am a few days late on this, but nonetheless, I still want to commitment to posting one random fact about myself each day of July.  Why?  Well, why not? ;)  You may feel like you know me simply from reading my posts, creeping around on The Air Force Wife fan page, following me on Twitter, but I feel like there are a lot of pretty significant things about me that often go over looked...getting to know people over the interwebs can sometimes be a tricky deal: People front, fake, lie, and distort themselves.  Getting to know people online is, more often than not, very misleading.  So I wanted to take this chance to share 31 random facts about myself with you - no sugar coating, hiding, or faking here!  Feel free to jump in, but be sure to leave me the link to your posts so I can learn more about you as well!

Fact #1:  I've always wanted to be a singer.  I think I'm a decent singer, but I get stage fright like you wouldn't believe...not so sure that I would be able to overcome it ever either.  I suppose I will just stick to singing in the car :)

Fact #2:  I hate spending money.  Money is probably one of the biggest sources of stress in my life.  I am constantly worried about it.

Fact #3:  I love to swim.  Not just wading or soaking in a pool - I mean swimming laps.  It's one of the best ways for me to clear my mind and relax...all while getting in some great cardio!

I Built A Bear

As A and I were walking around the mall on Friday, we popped into Build-A-Bear Workshop literally only to cool off from the scorching sun and stifling humidity.  We started casually talking about how her kids would have so much fun building a bear when they come back down in a week or so, which led A to inquire as to whether they had a patriotic bear (as her husband, M, is also in the Air Force).  We saw a blue bear with white stars, weren't too impressed, and continued to make our way around the remainder of the store to the "dressing room" section.  We were delightfully surprised by the cutest (no exaggeration) little teddy bear outfit in the world: Little, itty bitty, ini-mini blues!

We then knew we were making these bears.  The little uniforms were so cute - they even had shined dress shoes!

We chose our bears, stuffed them, brought them to life, and made a wish on their heart before placing it in their huggable, furry little bodies.  Next, it was shower time.

Next, we got them all uniformed up...so cute!

Hubby was very pleasantly surprised when he got home from work.  The lady at the Build-A-Bear store told us that, should either of our husbands deploy or need to leave for any reason, they can actually return to the store and put a recording of their voice inside of the bears;  beyond adorable!

Build-A-Bear also had Army ACU's, Marine blues, a Navy sailing suit (sorry I don't know the proper name for this!), and firemen and police uniforms.
