Cheers to the Freakin' Weekend

Suckiest part about being 19: No St. Patty's Day fun for me.  Nada, zilch, zero, NONE.  Not that I'm big into drinking - I'm actually not a huge fan of alcohol to begin with, but I'll save that for another post.

Regardless, we still had a festive St. Patty's Day, if festive includes having a maintenance man come over at 9 a.m. on a freaking Saturday and bring along his twin daughters because he couldn't find a babysitter.  Really?  What does this look like, a daycare?  I definitely was not anticipating spending my morning watching two (quite odd) girls fish around in the pond in our back yard for minnows and torture countless lizards because they were completely convinced that "all lizards have gills and can swim."  R.I.P. lizard babies.  There goes my hopes of shooting any pictures of lizards for the rest of our time here - I'm sure they have all fled to the forest to avoid the wrath better known as the return of the psycho twins.

I really love kids, don't get me wrong.  I just really do not enjoy overly curious, loud, rambunctious, dirty children being thrown into my lap and suddenly becoming my responsibility.  Not to mention I had barely even woken up - I don't even think I'd showered yet and within the span of 10 minutes I had the neighbor girl come over, the puppy to watch, and the twins.  All the while Hubby was showing off his Camaro to the maintenance man (when he was supposed to be fixing our stuff) and therefore prolonging the manic morning that much more.  ARG!  So 1:00 p.m. finally rolls around and we still need to get groceries out at the base (40 minute drive), do laundry, and clean up after the maintenance man (is it seriously a question on all maintenance men job applications inquiring as to whether they are absolute slobs and get joy out of tromping mud all through your house!?  We conveniently don't have a vacuum yet either...).  Needless to say, it was quite a long day.  On top of all of that, I was feeling a bit homesick (I was so exhausted) and Hubby and I just weren't getting along.

The MacDill commissary was not what I expected...I wish military wives could comprehend that they have no rank.  We are all the same.  You are no better than me for something that your husband has accomplished.  Just sayin'.

We visited the beach on base though and Hubby touched the ocean for the first time.  On top of that excitement, I also saw my first "wild" dolphin, which was absolutely awesome.  It is my dream to swim with dolphins; ever since I was little I have loved these creatures.

Later that night Hubby's anticipation of the activation of our Best Buy gift card from Rooms To Go was finally put to rest: The card was activated!  Seconds after this discovery, he was off to Best Buy to pick up our new 51" flat screen plasma TV.  He was like a kid on Christmas morning.
Yes, he is purposely being a creep ;-P

Today was volumes better.  The neighbors invited us over for a BBQ this afternoon and it was great - we hung out in their lanai and enjoyed the beautiful Florida weather.  We are so blessed to have such sweet neighbors!  Diezel had a hay day playing with their "chih-weenie" chihuahua/wiener dog mix and will hopefully sleep like a rock tonight.

Hubby starts his first day of work tomorrow - 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and I'm planning to go out and find a desk so I can start back at my medical transcription course again...I feel like such a slacker - I haven't touched it in months.  I'm so glad I went at it full speed in the beginning though; I was so far ahead that taking a couple of months off hasn't put me behind (yet).

For the rest of the night, I'm just planning on relaxing - I feel like this weekend has been so beyond hectic and that is not how weekends should be spent!  Hope you all had a relaxing, rejuvenating, wonderful weekend!

  1. Except for the maintenance man experience, sounds like a very fun day. This time of year in Tampa is perfect. I took some HCC classes on MacDill so very many years ago, so it's fun to hear you talk about the base. Sounds like you are settling into your new home quite nicely.

    1. It was so amazing to, firstly, see Hubby touching the ocean for the first time (I was SHOCKED that he never had before!) and secondly to see this beautiful dolphin hunting literally a few feet away from us! I told Hubby that the only present I want while we are down here is to be able to swim with dolphins at Discovery Cove - I think I would faint, cry, and freak out because I'd be so overwhelmed with emotion!
Our things from SD are supposed to be delivered sometime within the next 7 days - I can't wait! Then we will officially be able to become settled in :) Thanks for the comment!

  2. Hi Rachel, I found your site from Cari on Nighlon (your comment on my book!), a great idea to support other air force wives with all your thoughts of the day (I love quotes too as you can see from Cari) and love your openness about your life and challenges. A great adventure you're on already with your life :)
    Cheers
    Janet

    1. Janet - thank you so much for the visit (how flattering! ;-P) I've been reading some literature on self improvement lately, and it seemed very ironic for Cari to have posted about your book at this specific time. It seems like far too often we always try to pin our problems on others when, in fact, we need to focus on examining ourselves especially since we are the only ones we are in control of after all :)
I am planning on purchasing the eBook of How to Get Anything You Want - thank you for giving Cari the opportunity to review and introduce it to us!
