What We All WANT To Lose

As I'm sitting here thinking about the word "lose" a few items pop into mind for those frequently topping the lost items list.
Car keys
Temper
Sanity
Time
Interest
My Way

Glancing over those items, not many of those things are things I actually desire to lose. Most people don't roll out of bed in the morning, eyes popping wide open at the thought of "Oh boy, maybe I will lose my sanity today!!" So what do we want to lose?

For women, the obvious answer is weight. We are always looking for that new diet or trend. (Body by Vi, anyone?) These fads seem to come and go. Sometimes we lose a ton of weight in the beginning just to reach a plateau and gain even more back than we had at the beginning of the process.

I started really watching what I ate back in December. Saying that I was a chubby kid would be a drastic understatement: I was gargantuan. My parents really didn't regulate what I ate (which was everything in site that didn't eat me first) so I never knew much about nutritional values. I thinned out around my 8th grade year when I started to get made fun of for my weight. I didn't do this the "healthy" way, I just put 2 and 2 together and developed a simple, fool proof weight loss formula:

stuff less food in your mouth + drink more water = smaller waistline

Needless to say, this could get unhealthy pretty quickly.
So how do we lose weight healthily and keep it off for good? I recently discovered a website called My Fitness Pal and I think I'm starting to get the hang of this. My goal really didn't begin as Weigh Loss, simply just to become a healthier and happier person. My Fitness Pal offers you a community of supportive people on the same journey as yourself. It doesn't take much time spent on MFP to conclude that the supportive community is their secret weapon - this doesn't even include their freakishly accurate calorie counter with foods you would never guess included in their list (restaurant items, snacks, everything!). You are held accountable for your what you are putting in your body, which makes you really step back and think Okay, is this something I really want to do? A great thought process that can and will overflow into other areas of your lives.

To date, I have lost and KEPT OFF 8.5 pounds and I feel great. I have more energy, I feel better about myself, and my self confidence level as at an all-time high. If you have been searching for a simple, yet effective solution to lose weight, give My Fitness Pal a try.
Be sure to check out their App for smartphones!
